Seven Clean Seas

Seven Clean Seas is an ocean impact organization based in Singapore & Bali, with plastic recovery projects spanning across South East Asia.

Marketing. Brand Strategy. Creative Direction. Event Activation.

Seven Clean Seas is an ocean-impact organization on a mission to recover 10.000.000 kg of plastic from the marine environment. Their plastic recovery projects span across Indonesia and Thailand, and combine ocean conservation with social impact by radically disrupting the waste management industry.

Over an extended period of time, we’ve been working as a plug & play marketing team for Seven Clean Seas. Starting with Brand Strategy & Messaging, we helped SCS shape their identity, way of communicating and tone of voice. We also crafted fun and engaging ways to expand their audience, with a special focus on increasing inbound leads.

Our extensive engagement with SCS spanned across Inbound Strategy, Social Media Management, Brand & Event Activation, as well as Creative Direction for a multitude of video commercials.

Ben Moody
Co-founder, Seven Clean Seas

“When we first met the not so creative team, we were in a marketing hole. After multiple bad experiences with agencies we took one final leap of faith as we entrusted our vision to not so creative, and the journey surpassed every expectation.
With an unmatched blend of creativity and strategic prowess, not so creative didn't just revamp our brand - they revolutionized how we communicate our mission of environmental conservation. Their approach was both innovative and consistently creative which produced results. Our best partners came from inbounds and still continue to outperform. The results were tangible, elevated brand awareness - we get a lot of compliments - and enhanced engagement.”

The Challenge

Help a young, fast growing startup to find their uniqueness and positioning while kicking off marketing strategy across multiple channels and various stakeholders (businesses, consumers, institutions, regulators and philanthropic organizations).

Our Solution

With a wide range of work involved, several key elements have been crucial to driving Seven Clean Seas' growth – here’s how we made it happen!

Brand Strategy

In a market where the same story is often repeated, we chose to lean into the distinctive identity of Seven Clean Seas' original branding. We placed their bold yellow front and center in all communications, pairing it with a fearless, energetic, and fun approach designed to stand out.

From 'An Ocean without Plastic. Picture it!' to 'Because the sea is f**king awesome,' we developed a fresh, bold messaging pool that could be tailored to different audiences, always keeping the brand's personality and values at the forefront.

Marketing Strategy

Our primary goal was to increase inbound leads while engaging diverse audiences across multiple channels. To achieve this, we developed a multifaceted communication strategy spanning the website, Instagram, LinkedIn, and two distinct newsletters:

High Tides, Good Vibes
a B2C newsletter designed to spread uplifting sustainability news every Monday morning.

Suits & Tides
'the business newsletter with more knowledge than microplastics in the ocean.' This B2B-focused newsletter aimed to boost top-funnel awareness and, in just a few months, organically grew a loyal audience of thousands of senior professionals.

Throughout our collaboration, we helped Seven Clean Seas evolve their brand not only strategically but also visually. We enhanced their visual identity with a sleek, modern look, expanded the color palette, and developed a flexible design framework that could be applied across all departments.
Additionally, we directed several video explainers, seamlessly blending video production and graphics to make data and stats stand out – including a TV commercial currently airing on BBC Earth and Discovery Channel.

Art & Creative Direction

Event Activation

Leveraging our extensive experience in events and offline activations, we helped Seven Clean Seas create engaging, high-converting concepts, such as the one for Taste of London. The goal was to connect with attendees and capture their emails, so we developed a fun yet educational lead-generation strategy. On average, people ingest 5 grams of microplastic per week – the weight of a credit card. To bring this message to life, we handed out branded chocolate credit cards while educating attendees about plastic waste. This creative approach generated over 600 leads in just two days at minimal cost.

Brand Partnerships
& Brand Activations

A key part of Seven Clean Seas' strategy has been partnering with global brands to fund plastic removal campaigns. This has included developing and executing partner marketing strategies with industry leaders like Lunar and Spencer Ogden, and supporting successful Kickstarter campaigns such as Lifelong Deo.

Lunar, the leading digital bank in the Nordics, joined forces with Seven Clean Seas to promote their sustainability initiative:
Project Blue...

…aimed at combating plastic pollution by donating a portion of their credit card revenue to support ocean-cleaning projects led by Seven Clean Seas. The goal was to ensure that Lunar users felt connected to this cause, despite the physical distance between them and the affected oceans.

To achieve this, we built a creative campaign to bridge Denmark and Indonesia, emphasizing how every tap of a Lunar card contributes to making a difference. A commercial filmed in Bali with a Danish actress illustrated this message, showcasing the real impact users could make with such a small gesture.

The campaign successfully introduced Project Blue to a broad audience, gaining traction through a long-form LinkedIn interview with Anne Marie Kindberg, Lunar's Chief Revenue Officer.
The initiative resonated with thousands of users, creating a deeper connection to the cause and amplifying awareness across the Nordics.
